Motivation during this time is hard to maintain but it certainly is the difference between those who talk about what they want to do and those who actually do it.

The lockdown is a differentiator – one that generations before us have not experienced since the world war. The difference is, we have an exponentially different world – the power of technology really makes this a great time to pick up those tasks, hobbies or skills. Whenever you have said “I have no time to do that” – this is no longer an excuse…”I don’t know how” doesn’t exist – youtube and google have all the answers. You just need the motivation to find the answer.

So how can you take down those tasks and move forward. The main thing to do is break the task down into smaller chunks. For instance, if you want a read a book by a set date, don’t wait until the last day to try and read 300 pages because:

  1. You won’t enjoy it
  2. You won’t learn as much from it

Take the number of pages and divide it by the number of days – then read that many pages per day. This is an average number to do per day – some days you can do more and others less – but generally by the end you would have read the book and had time to implement the learnings.

Do this with other things – anything. I have used this method for years and it allows me to achieve so much in a day – but also have time to relax.

If you find that there are too many things to do, there are many books around which give great techniques – Eat that Frog! by Brian Tracey detailed the ABCDE method.

The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson looks at the power of small incremental, consistent actions toward your goals.

As for motivation – ask yourself why you want to do what you have set out. If this is powerful enough, you will be pushed toward your goal.
